AI-Powered Features and Innovations Expected in 2024
The potential release of Windows 12 in the latter part of 2024 has generated considerable interest. According to reports from Windows Central, Microsoft is gearing up to unveil the next iteration of Windows, internally referred to as “Hudson Valley,” likely to be marketed as Windows 12.
Projected to run on the new Germanium platform, the release is expected in the second half of 2024. However, it is anticipated that Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) will begin shipping new Arm hardware preloaded with Germanium as early as June 2024.
Currently undergoing testing in the Windows Insider Canary Channel, the early version of Hudson Valley is expected to reach retailers with the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) version in April 2024.
Hudson Valley places a significant emphasis on enhancing user experience through Artificial Intelligence (AI) features. These include an AI-powered Windows Shell featuring an “advanced Copilot” that continuously operates in the background, enhancing search capabilities and workflow optimization.
The AI integration will be extensive, requiring new, more powerful hardware known as Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for optimal performance. However, this shift may make older computers incompatible with certain AI-focused features due to increased resource demands on the processor, RAM, GPU, etc.
A notable addition is a new history/timeline feature, enabling users to “scroll back in time through all the apps and websites that Copilot has remembered.”
Additional AI features include Super Resolution, utilizing NPU hardware to enhance video and game quality, an upgraded Live Captions supporting real-time translations, and AI-powered wallpapers with parallax effects and interactive capabilities.
Furthermore, a dedicated “creator” area will be integrated into the Start menu and File Explorer, providing creators a streamlined space for Microsoft 365 activities.
The distinction between Hudson Valley being a significant Windows 11 upgrade or an entirely new Windows 12 OS remains uncertain, with speculations abound. An official word from Microsoft is eagerly awaited for further clarification. Stay tuned for updates.
