How Apple TV’s Latest Beta Revolutionizes Remote Control Search Functionality
The most recent beta release for Apple TV brings an interesting enhancement to the Siri button on the remote control. Currently, pressing the button activates Siri, functioning much like it does on your iPhone. For instance, uttering “Ted Lasso” will swiftly take you to the corresponding show on Apple TV+ in the Apple TV app on your Apple TV 4K. In the developer beta, however, a single press of the Siri button opens a search box on your TV screen and activates the microphone, encouraging you to vocalize your query. The results span across supported apps, providing flexibility in choosing where to go next.
Presently, this feature primarily operates within Apple’s apps, conducting searches across various apps directly from the home screen. It seamlessly integrates with the Apple TV app, prompting you to “Search TV,” or in the Apple Music app, inviting you to “Search music.” However, it’s important to note that the functionality is still confined to specific apps during this beta phase and doesn’t extend to platforms like YouTube TV or Hulu. Long-pressing the microphone button retains its original function of activating Siri across all apps.
It’s important to acknowledge that these details are subject to change, and there’s a lingering curiosity about potential alterations to the remote’s microphone button. Nonetheless, for now, it adds a delightful touch to the Apple TV experience, complementing the beta tweaks to the Apple TV app itself.
