On December 4, 1993,
The Space Shuttle Endeavour assumed control of the Hubble Space Telescope, inaugurating its first servicing mission to address inherent flaws. Over the subsequent five days, a series of repairs and enhancements took place, notably featuring the incorporation of the Corrective Optics Space Telescope Axial Replacement (COSTAR) and the Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2) modules. Together, these modules effectively addressed the imperfections in the Hubble’s primary mirror. With these essential corrections made, the Hubble Space Telescope, three years later, fulfilled its potential, capturing intricate imagery that was previously unattainable with Earth-based telescopes.
