WhatsApp’s Cloud-Enhanced Update: Introducing Email Login for Enhanced Security and Accessibility

WhatsApp, the widely-used instant messaging platform owned by Meta, has introduced a new feature to enhance account security. Users now have the option to log in using their email addresses instead of their phone numbers.

This new feature is expected to improve overall security, providing WhatsApp users with a more robust and secure interaction on the platform.

Recent reports from WABetaInfo, a reliable source for WhatsApp insights, shed light on the potential implementation of Email Verification for login purposes. The feature is currently in beta testing, with a select group of testers on Android and iOS getting an early look.

According to WABetaInfo, this feature serves as an additional access method, ensuring users can log in even if they encounter temporary difficulties in receiving the usual 6-digit code via SMS for various reasons.

For users of the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS version 23.23.1.77, accessible through the TestFlight app, a new section called “Email address” has been added to account settings. Through this feature, users can associate an email address with their WhatsApp account.

The email verification feature offers an alternative means of access, especially useful when users face a temporary lack of access to their registered phone number or encounter challenges in receiving SMS messages.

Upon successful verification of the linked email address, WhatsApp users gain the flexibility to log in using either their email address or the conventional method of requesting a 6-digit code via SMS. It’s important to note that the requirement of a phone number for creating a new WhatsApp account remains unchanged.

As of now, the email verification feature is exclusively available to a select group of beta testers who have updated to the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS through the TestFlight app. It is expected to roll out gradually to a wider audience in the coming days.
